2011 F-Series Super Duty Turbo Diesel v. Gasoline

The 2011 Super Duty lineup is projected to broaden the gap over the competition when it comes to shipment and towing. The new 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel is stronger, lighter, smoother and more powerful than ever before. It is Ford designed, Ford-Built and extensively real-world tested by Ford Global diesel powertrain experts..

Some components of the Power Stroke include: Compacted graphite iron (CGI) engine block, which allows the block structure to be optimized for reduced weight and maximum strength and helps improve fuel efficiency, Aluminum cylinder heads and CGI engine block offer weight savings and help improve fuel efficiency and increases strength, Unique inboard exhaust design helps reduce exhaust system volume and heat transfer to the engine compartment and improves noise, vibration and harshness.

The new Power Stroke will be the cleanest diesel ever in Super Duty Pickup or Chassis Cab to meet the strict 2010 calendar year federal diesel emissions requirements.

For those customers who prefer gasoline engines, the all new 6.2L V8 delivers unmatched gasoline horsepower and best-in-class torque. For Chassis Cab customers, Super Duty also offers the proven 6.8L 3-valve V10.

Some key components of the 6.2L V8 engine are: Large-bore architecture which helps improve engine breathing with larger intake and exhaust valves, Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) valvetrain which allows for optimized camshaft design to help provide low-speed torque delivery, Two spark plugs per cylinder help efficiently burn the air/fuel mixture in each cylinder to help increase torque and fuel efficiency.

The Chassis Cab V10 gasoline engine offers proven durability and big-time torque for the Super Duty Chassis Cab customer and some key features include: 362 horsepower, Short/Long intake runner design features (Long-runner design for lower engine rpm operation to speed up airflow and provide maximum torque, Short-runner design is used at higher rpm for high-velocity air intake to help maximize horsepower) and a 3-valve design that optimizes the timing of the intake and exhaust valves during combustion.

The 6.2L V8 engine offers Flexible Fuel which is a blend of 85% ethanol fuel and 15% unleaded gasoline. The importance of E85 is that the fuel is made from renewable resources that helps lower our dependence on imported oil and helps lower greenhouse gas emissions.
