Months of late night meetings, preparation, dedication, and determination sure did pay off this weekend at the Drive One 4 UR School Event! Beechmont Ford and Glen Este High School, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, had the opportunity to put their heads together to create a very successful event that raised thousands of dollars to aid the Glen Este High School Athletic Booster Club. Ford Motor Company’s Drive One 4 UR School Event is Glen Este High School’s largest fundraiser to date and there is no surprise as to why it turned out a success. When you have parents, coaches, teachers, and community members who care as much as Glen Este community members do you’re bound for success!
Brittany Iredale, Beechmont Ford’s Internet Sales Consultant, was presented the fundraiser earlier this year from Ford Motor Company and the first high school that came to mind was Glen Este High School. Beechmont Ford and Glen Este High School are minutes from each other and a lot of Beechmont Ford’s business comes from community members who send their children to Glen Este High School. So, it seemed logical to team up with Glen Este. That, and Brittany is a 2003 graduate of Glen Este High School!
Her first meeting was with Michele Delaney, Glen Este High School’s Athletic Booster President. “I have never met anyone who is as organized as Michele” Brittany jokes, “She works hard for the schools and you can tell that she truly enjoys what she does. I feel confident in saying that this event would not have been a success without her and her determination.” Michele and her athletic booster team were very creative with the event and realized at an early stage that they could use this event to their benefit. Multiple sports teams set up booths that included spirit wear, bake sales, raffle prizes and games. The local fire department displayed their fire truck and medical unit, Chick-Fil-A brought a prize wheel along with free sandwich coupons, Kona Ica brought an Ice Cream truck and another local vendor brought a large bounce-house. Booths selling baked goods and spirit wear had a very successful day selling lots of cookies, cakes, t-shirts and shorts. Everyone involved were amazed at the turn-out and very thankful of Ford Motor Company and Beechmont Ford’s contribution. Volunteers felt that the event was unlike traditional fundraisers, where getting participants is a challenge, and felt that Drive One 4 UR School was a fun and easy way of getting the community involved.
Initially, ten vehicles were brought for driving and four left for display but by the end of the day, fourteen cars were being driven and two were on display. Beechmont Ford staff had to make two trips back to the store for more vehicles. The vehicles could not make it back fast enough for the eager participants. All vehicles brought were on the road ALL day long; the Mustang, F-150, Flex and Edge being the most popular. After participants completed their drive and waiver they were given a goodie bag, a free hot dog and a raffle ticket. Most stayed for a good hour, hour and a half checking out the great Ford vehicles, playing games and chatting with fellow participants.
Beechmont Ford was excited to get involved with the community because they understand budgets are tight and schools are often underfunded in extra-curricular activities and they wanted to do anything possible to help. The event resulted in exceeding a goal of 300 test drives. All materials have been shipped to program headquarters in Detroit and a check for $6,000 will be presented to Glen Este High School in 6-8 weeks.
Beechmont Ford and Glen Este High School would like to thank the Community Journal, Cincinnati.com, and the local radio stations for getting the message to the public prior to the event. Also, thank you to those who showed up and test-drove; the event would not have been possible without you. Ford Motor Company has created a wonderful and effective fundraiser that both dealers and schools are very thankful for!
Ford Motor Company and Beechmont Ford are partnering to help raise up to $6,000 to support the Glen Este High School Athletic Boosters as part of Ford’s Drive 1 4 UR School Program. Glen Este High School parents, family members, friends and community members will have the opportunity to participate in a “no pressure” test drive of new Ford vehicles to help raise $6,000 for Glen Este High School Athletics. Beechmont Ford is working with Glen Este High School to host the one-day event that will take place on May 15 between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Ford Motor Company will donate $20 for each test drive! The program has raised over $2.3 million in two years for other high schools. Be there on May 15th to help raise up to $6,000 for Glen Este High School Athletics! There will fun for the whole family; food, games and prizes!

Meet Jackson & Matthew, March of Dimes 2010 Ambassadors
Matthew and Jackson were born 10 weeks premature with the first few weeks of their lives filled with feeding tubes, IV’s, x-rays and ventilators. The boys received surfactant to help them breath and spent weeks in Good Samaritan’s NICU.
During their young lives they have endured numerous surgeries and procedures. Multiple therapies have had to be introduced to assist in their development. Chronic health issues will always be a concern, but overall the boys have thrived and are happy six year-olds.
Peter and Tiffannie, Matthew and Jackson’s parents, are proud supporters of the March of Dimes and believe that without research and education developed and funded by the March of Dimes, Matthew and Jackson would not have survived. The Rebhun’s mission is to educate the public and healthcare workers about the risk of premature labor and birth. Their hope is that other families will not have to endure the fears and pain that they experienced. Their wish is for all babies to be born full-term and healthy.

As we increase our volunteer efforts and donations for the March for Babies, April 25, 2010, at Sawyer Point, people keep asking us how the money will be used.
Here are a few ways in which the March of Dimes will use the money donated:
Hospital Newborn Nursery
Every baby in the nation is touched by the March of Dimes in the first days life. Hospitals provide an APGAR Score for every newborn, a clinical system of evaluating the physical condition of a newborn. Used by obstetical practices around the world, it was developed by Virginia Apgar, MD who worked for March of Dimes from 1959 until her death in 1976.
Grocery Store
Enriched breads, grains, pasta and cereals. Walk down the aisles of your local grocery store and the March of Dimes is there. Take a close look at the labels on breads, grains, pastas and cereals and you will see that they are fortified with folic acid. The March of Dimes advocated for folic acid fortification of grain products which led to a 30% reduction in neural tube defects–deadly and crippling defects of the brain and spinal column.
Pediatricians Offices
Polio vaccine. The March of Dimes provided complete funding for the development of the Salk polio vaccine and the successful field trial that proved the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. The March of Dimes also funded research that led to the development of the Sabin polio vaccine. Pediatricians still vaccinate newborns for polio which is eradicated in this nation.
Workplace
With the click of a button, you can help lower your health care costs. March of Dimes Health Babies Health Business is a free multi-dimensional educational worksite wellness program that helps moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. A small investment in time could save your company thousands of dollars.
Professional Education
March of Dimes provides continuing education to doctors, nurses and health care professionals on issues that affect our mission such as genetics, prematurity, prenatal care, preconception health, cultural competency, care of the high risk newborn, diabetes and pregnancy, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, sexually transmitted infections, etc.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit health organization that champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the nation. The March of Dimes funded the research that led to the prevention of polio and has not stopped defending the health of babies since. Each and every day, you can see the efforts of the March of Dimes when you look around the community. From pioneering research promoting folic acid and advocating for lifesaving newborn screening, the March of Dimes continues to do all they can to make sure every baby is born healthy.
As a result, Beechmont Ford is spearheading a March for Babies team for the annual March for Babies, Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Sawyer Point. We look forward to being a part of the 12,000 volunteers projected at the event and showing our support. You can review our team page and show your support as well.
Montana Wear, daughter of our own Kathy Wear, was recently featured in ESPN the Magazine’s local affiliate, ESPN Rise. ESPN Rise features leading student athletes in the tri-state area. Unfortunately, it is a print-only publication and we have not received an electronic copy to share. However, we did want to recognize the phenomenal talent that Montana is.
Montana is a standout fast-pitch softball pitcher for Felicity-Franklin High School and the Cincy Doom, a Cincinnati based select softball team. Montana has won conference awards for her high school team and numerous awards for her select team.
Congratulations Kathy on raising such a great student-athlete!
